Composition 101
Mission : Students will explore the foundational principles of pictorial composition through collaborative, hands-on artmaking. Working in small teams, they will use cut-paper techniques to create dynamic designs that demonstrate balance, movement, focal point, contrast, and unity.

Learning Objectives :
Identify and analyze the principles of pictorial composition, including balance, movement, focal point, contrast, and unity, through the study of reference artists
Collaborate effectively in peer teams to brainstorm, plan, and create a cut-paper composition that applies these principles
Demonstrate the principles of composition by arranging cut-paper shapes in a way that creates a visually engaging and balanced design
Use critical thinking and discussion during a group critique, articulating the strengths and areas for improvement in their own work and the work of their peers
